2016-2017 passion projects are below
Quarter 4: Mountain Quest
Unfortunately, I did not have that much time to tackle the project I was hoping for, so instead I made a mock mountain survival video about some climbers who went missing and this was some found footage. Though it was not the original plan, I still had a lot of fun making it and got to play with my editing software more to get the feel that I wanted. I'm happy with the outcome of my project especially considering some of the footage was a little difficult to work with but overall I think I made it funny and it was really fun to make! Thanks for a great year!! <3
QUarter 3: Blink
For my third passion project I wanted to do a completely new element. I decided to make a short film about a person living with OCD and what it is really like. By looking up articles and contacting a girl with OCD, I attempted to look past stereotypes and capture what living day to day with the mental illness feels like. I really enjoyed the process of making this and testing out a whole different genre of film. I hope that this brings insight and educates people who might not know what OCD is and above all, I hope you enjoy!
Quarter 2: a child's moment
For the second round of passion projects I decided to be a bit more ambitious. I thought for awhile about stuff that I liked to do and projects that I would really enjoy making and then I got it. I love working with kids and I love hearing what they are thinking because they always have something interesting to say. I decided to interview some of my friends younger siblings, asking them basic questions, just to hear what they had to say. The questions I was most excited to hear about was "what would you change about yourself?" because I was really curious to see what they would say about themselves and whether or not they would say something physical. I'm really happy with how it turned out and with all the work i put into this project. I had a big learning curve throughout the interviews and learned to ask "why?" for most questions because a lot of the kids didn't elaborate on their answers and I learned to make sure I have lighting if needed! My only complaint would be one of the interviews isn't in focus as much as it could be and I wish I could have better ended it because any way I did it felt abrupt. Overall I'm very proud of this project and I'm happy to put my name on it.
Quarter 1: Reverse Gender Roles
With this project I decided to look at a few different ads, all but one being vintage out of date ads and switch the gender on the ads. I definitely tried some new things, taking a lot closer look at photoshop and relying on that to recreate these ads. I wanted to do this mainly because it's always fun to go through the process of picking out the ads, posing the models, and messing around with photoshop but seeing the transformation from opposite genders was really interesting and satisfying. If I could do this project again I would pay more attention to costume and props and try to replicate them better but my main focus was to get my pictures taken faster then take my time photoshopping. I tried my best to find similar fonts of text as well but struggled with that. I wanted the ads to mainly show how ridiculous they are in general no matter what gender but it was the "norm" at some point. The last ad is a little out of place but I wanted to make sure to include one where a female was put in an athletic position.
